Undo AI Writeback: Managing Changes and Reverting Edits

AI suggestions are powerful, but they aren't always perfect. Learn how to quickly revert AI writebacks, inspect changes via diff, and restore your document to its original state.

Understanding AI Writeback

When you use Kequan Office's AI features, the system can automatically apply changes directly to your document (writeback). This is convenient for quick edits, but it can sometimes alter text in ways that don't match your intent. Understanding how to control this process is key to maintaining document integrity.

Reverting the Last AI Change

If an AI suggestion has been applied and you want to remove it, the fastest method is to use the standard Undo command. Press Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac) immediately after the writeback. Kequan Office tracks AI actions distinctly, allowing you to step back through recent AI modifications one by one.

Inspecting Changes via Diff View

For more control, use the Diff View. Before finalizing an AI edit, you can review the proposed changes in a side-by-side or inline comparison mode. This allows you to see exactly what text was added, deleted, or replaced. If the diff reveals unwanted alterations, you can reject the entire batch or select specific lines to keep or discard.

Restoring Original Text

If you have already committed changes and need to restore the original text, check the document history. Kequan Office maintains a local history of your edits. You can navigate to the 'History' panel, locate the version prior to the AI writeback, and restore that snapshot. This ensures you never lose your original data.

Preventing Unwanted Writebacks

To avoid accidental changes, configure your AI settings to 'Preview Only' instead of 'Auto-Apply'. In the settings menu, you can toggle whether AI suggestions are inserted directly or placed in a suggestion sidebar. This gives you full control over when and how AI edits are applied to your document.

FAQ

Can I undo an AI writeback after closing the document?

Yes, if you have enabled local history tracking. You can reopen the document and use the History feature to restore a previous version saved before the AI edit was applied.

Does undoing an AI change delete the AI model?

No. Undoing a writeback only removes the text changes from your document. The AI model remains installed and ready for future suggestions.

How do I see what the AI actually changed?

Use the Diff View feature. It highlights additions in green and deletions in red, providing a clear visual representation of the AI's modifications.

Is the undo action reversible?

Yes. If you undo an AI change and then realize you want it back, you can use the Redo command (<code>Ctrl+Y</code> or <code>Cmd+Shift+Z</code>) to reapply the change.
